Why I'll Never Burn Paraffin Candles In My Home Again.

I used to be the person who bought candles purely based on how they smelled.

If it was strong, cozy, or reminded me of a season I loved—I didn’t think twice. I didn't look at the ingredients and I didn't even think to consider how it was impacting my home and my health.

But over time, I started paying more attention to the things I was bringing into our home. Not in a dramatic "dump everything out of every cabinet" type of way but in small segments. I would pick something and try to learn more about it. Then I would make a choice on whether it made sense for our family to swap out.

It started with a simple question

I remember reading the word paraffin on a label and realizing I had no idea what it actually was.

Which is kind of wild, considering how often I was lighting candles.

So I looked into it....

And the more I learned, the more I was astonished this was allowed to be sold without warning labels all over it!

Paraffin wax is a byproduct of petroleum. When it burns, it can release compounds like benzene and toluene—things you’d never intentionally bring into your home, especially not into the air you’re breathing every day.

They’re also found in things like:

  • car exhaust
  • gasoline fumes
  • cigarette smoke

Excuse me, WHAT!?

That’s what led me to soy wax and creating soy candles. 100% All Natural Soy. No additives. Because even the soy wax industry cannot be trusted (if you follow me on Instagram, you know I talk about SOY BLENDS and how sneaky these companies can be).

Not because it was trendy or because I was trying to “switch everything overnight,” but because it felt like a better option for something we use so often.

Soy burns cleaner. It’s made from soybeans instead of petroleum.
